Thank you for your comments. I have recently begun video taping some social dancing and will be posting them to YouTube in the very near future.

David, considering your articles on the subject I was hoping to see some video of you dancing, unfortunately a quick search for your name doesn't turn anything up. Is there anywhere to see it?

Thank you for this article. I am a 35 year old straight male. I have always liked the "idea" of ballroom dance, or at least The idea I have had of it. Moving to music with a woman, especially a woman I love, leading our bodies in a dynamic partnership, the hisory, the music - especially tango, these are some things that make it so appealing. I have to tell you that the main thing holding me back has been watching compeitions. Videos on YouTube and competitions show what is supposed to be the highest form of the art, right? Well it's totally off putting. I don't mean to be harsh, but the garish makeup, the pointlessly skimpy and silly costumes, and most of all, and this is the biggest detractor for me, the way the men swish their hips and present their hands with all the flourishes, just the DANDINESS of it all, again, is totally off putting. This is true for me and most of the guys I know, straight or gay! I DO have gay friends, I AM a hairdresser, I have zero problem with homosexuality and I will only ever live, as I do now, in liberal, pro gay neighborhoods. It's the flamboyance and flamieness of professional dancers that is keeping me and most of the guys I know away from dance. Isn't there another way? I'm really sorry if this is rude, it is, however, sincere.

Last weekend I simply watched some friends dancing the Tango - all were inspired!

For those who haven't figured it out, dancing is one of the most romantic things you can do. It shows leadership, grace and sensitivity. Us ladies appreciate that!

Learn to dance well and your lady will appreciate it :)
